Lung cancer’s future in China
نویسنده
چکیده
In China, the risk of getting lung cancer from inhaled polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is higher in eastern portions of the country, and greater in major cities than in rural areas, researchers have found. Yanxu Zhang et al. modeled the amount of PAH emissions nationwide and characteristics of Chinese populations to determine their risk for lung cancer. Variation in genetic susceptibility was taken into consideration in the risk assessment. PAH emissions in China come from burning biomass and coal as fuel in rural areas, and from industrial processes in cities. The authors found that the highest PAH concentrations were well above national safety standards in parts of eastern China, where biomass burning and coke ovens are common. Areas with small coke ovens and short smokestacks had the highest PAH concentrations because it is harder to disperse the chemicals. The authors suggest that PAH concentrations could be worse indoors because the chemicals are also byproducts of burning fuels for heating and cooking. PAH concentrations have been growing since the 1980s, but the authors say that PAH pollution may decrease as China moves toward cleaner fuels this century, which could help decrease lung cancer incidence. — P.D.

تخمین نرخ بروز استاندارد شده سنی سرطان ریه در ایران برای سالهای 2014 و 2030
Introduction: lung cancer is the most deadly and the most expensive cancer all around the world. Limited studies have been conducted in the survey of incidence rate for lung cancer in IRAN. National report of cancer registry in IRAN (report 2008) indicates that mean value of ASR of lung cancer is 5.23 for men and women (7.09 for men and 3.38 for women). These values are so different from the va...
متن کاملTime-dependent changes of autophagy and apoptosis in lipopolysaccharide-induced rat acute lung injury
Objective(s): Abnormal lung cell death including autophagy and apoptosis is the central feature in acute lung injury (ALI). To identify the cellular mechanisms and the chronology by which different types of lung cell death are activated during lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI, we decided to evaluate autophagy (by LC3-II and autophagosome) and apoptosis (by caspase-3) at different time point...
متن کاملImpacts of multiple-field irradiation and boron concentration on the treatment of boron neutron capture therapy for non-small cell lung cancer
Background: Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a radiotherapy that combines biological targeting and high linear energy transfer. A potential therapeutic approach for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is considered. However, dose in lung tumor is not homogeneous, and it will reduce the effect of BNCT treatment. In order to improve the dose distribution of BNCT, the multi-field irradiation...

After sudden death with a history of about two weeks ruminal tympany, a 3-year-old, male alpaca from Huantaiqi Zoo, Chongqing, China was presented to the Animal Diseases Rapid Diagnosis Center, Southwest University, Chongqing, China for diagnosis of the death causes. At necropsy, the primary pathological lesions were found in the lung. A pronounced hemorrhage with topical congestion and lobular...
متن کاملTime course changes of oxidative stress and inflammation in hyperoxia-induced acute lung injury in rats
Objective(s):Therapies with high levels of oxygen are commonly used in the management of critical care. However, prolonged exposure to hyperoxia can cause acute lung injury. Although oxidative stress and inflammation are purported to play an important role in the pathogenesis of acute lung injury, the exact mechanisms are still less known in the hyperoxic acute lung injury (HALI). Materials ...
